BEXIMCO protestors set fires to Grameen Fabrics and Fashion factory

Agitated BEXIMCO workers in Gazipur set fire to the Grameen Fabrics and Fashion Ltd factory in Kashimpur, demanding the reopening of 16 closed factories. The fire, which spread rapidly, was extinguished by seven firefighting units. The extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.

Earlier, the workers blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar highway for about seven hours, halting traffic on the highway. Protesters also vandalized and set fire to several buses, trucks, and shops. The situation escalated as they stormed the Grameen Fabrics building and set it ablaze.

Law enforcement initially used tear gas and sound grenades to disperse the crowd but struggled to control the unrest until the army and industrial police intervened. Despite their efforts, protests continued to disrupt the highway.
