FBCCI urged to cut import duty on daily essentials

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam called for a reduction in import duties on daily essentials to maintain their prices at a reasonable level until Eid-ul-Azha. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive database of essential items to ensure smooth supply to the market. Speaking at a discussion on daily essential commodities in Old Dhaka, Alam urged businesses to remain vigilant in stabilizing prices.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s potential as a trillion-dollar economy with significant market influence, he underscored the importance of unity among local businesses for national progress. Amin Helaly, senior vice president of FBCCI’s market monitoring committee, noted the private sector’s role in creating around 22 lakh jobs annually. Officials from the Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection also attended the discussion.
