Importers can take delivery of 1850 containers from Dhaka Pangaon ICT
National Board of Revenue has authorized importers to retrieve over 1,850 containers from the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal in Dhaka to alleviate congestion at the Chattogram port. These containers were originally destined for the Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD) via rail; however, rail services have been suspended following recent deadly protests over government job quota reforms and the subsequent ousting of the previous Awami League government. Despite the halt in transportation, unloading of imported goods continued, leading to significant backlog. In response to a request from port authorities, the NBR permitted the clearance of 1,856 containers from Pangaon on August 22.
This measure is expected to substantially reduce congestion at Chattogram port and improve overall operational efficiency, according to the NBR statement.
