Long queue of vessel at Chittagong port

As of today, at least 13 container vessels are waiting at the berth at Chittagong port due to space constraints at the yards. The backlog is caused by an inability to unload imports.

Delivery of imports resumed on the evening of July 23 after nearly five days of unrest and curfew, but progress has been slow due to road congestion with trucks entering to collect containers. Currently, the import yards hold 35,421 TEUs of full container load (FCL) shipments, over 88% of their 40,368 TEU capacity.

This space shortage is causing vessels to remain at the jetties for three to five days, instead of the usual 48 hours needed for unloading imports and loading exports.
