5-day long ‘Jamdani festival 2024’ had started in the city

The government is actively promoting Jamdani, a traditional Bangladeshi textile, in the international market through various initiatives. These include training artisans, offering export incentives, ensuring quality packaging, and showcasing the product at Bangladesh missions abroad. At the inauguration of the ‘Jamdani Festival 2024’ at the Bangladesh National Museum, senior officials highlighted the unique qualities of Jamdani and its potential for global recognition. They emphasized the need to preserve and promote cultural heritage, with efforts underway to include Tangail sarees in the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has been a key supporter of Jamdani, establishing an industrial estate dedicated to its production. Jamdani received Geographical Indication (GI) certification in 2016, marking its significance as the first Bangladeshi product to receive this recognition.
