Lower price and falling exports hits the Jute growers of Bangladesh

According to jute growers and traders in Bangladesh, current jute price is much lower than the price same time in last year and it is due to decline of export volume as yarn made of natural fiber losing its ground day by day. While the price of jute per maund sold in December last year was 3,200 tk, the same goes now 2,200 tk – 2,600 tk this December.
Exports of jute and jute goods declined about 11% year-on-year to USD 406 million in July-October period of the current fiscal year, EPB data showed. Farmers got 82 lakh bales of raw jute during the harvest midway through the year, according to the department of Agricultural extension.
