Meghna group ties up with Turkey’s Tam Hangers
Meghna Group has partnered with Turkey’s Tam Hangers to produce plastic garment hangers in Bangladesh for global retailers. Their joint venture, Tam Hangers Bangladesh Limited, started trial production at a new facility in Mirzapur, Tangail, on 4th October. The plant currently operates with 16 machines producing 30,000 hangers daily, aiming to expand to 40 machines with a total $7.5 million investment and the creation of 500 jobs.
The factory uses recycled hangers from abroad, emphasizing sustainable production by reusing raw materials and running entirely on solar power. Global brands such as Marks & Spencer and H&M are set to source hangers from this facility, which is located in Meghna Industrial Park.
Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association reports that hanger exports brought in $30 million in 2022-23. With the new investment, the sector is poised for further growth. Sustainability is a key focus, with the circular economy and recycling efforts seen as vital for future market access, especially in the European Union, where de-carbonization and recycled materials are becoming essential for the ready-made garment industry.
