RMG export sees an impressive growth in EU market

Bangladesh’s apparel exports to the European Union saw an impressive 60.9% rise in January 2025, reaching €1.91 billion compared to €1.19 billion in the same month of 2024, according to Eurostat data. Knitwear exports surged by 64.2%, while woven apparel exports grew by 56.3%. In terms of quantity, garment exports increased by 58.1%, reaching 126.86 million kilograms.
This growth strengthens Bangladesh’s position as a leading supplier to the EU, driven by competitive pricing, trade benefits under the Everything But Arms (EBA) scheme, and enhanced production capacity. Mohammad Hatem, president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, attributed the surge to increased efficiency and shifting orders from China. However, he warned that slow improvements in law and order could impact buyer confidence.
Government to ensure a stable supply of utilities like gas and electricity at affordable prices to maintain competitiveness. He also noted that the US market was recovering alongside the EU, as economic improvements have led to increased consumer spending on apparel.
