UK trade envoy visits Bangladesh to deepen economic ties

The UK’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster DBE, has arrived in Dhaka for a five-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties. This marks her second visit since her appointment in January 2025.

During the trip, she will meet top members of the interim government, including Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus and Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin, as well as leaders of major political parties. Discussions will focus on economic reforms, trade, and investment cooperation as Bangladesh prepares for LDC graduation in 2026.

Winterton will also visit Chattogram, engaging stakeholders in aviation, higher education, renewable energy, and defence. The visit underscores the UK’s continued support through its Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which allows duty-free access for Bangladeshi exports until 2029, helping sustain export competitiveness and job creation.
