Pakiza Knit Composite received LEED platinum certification

In a remarkable achievement for Bangladesh’s textile industry, Pakiza Knit Composite Ltd. has been awarded the LEED Platinum Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) — the highest recognition for energy-efficient, sustainable, and environmentally responsible industrial operations.

The certification places Pakiza Knit Composite among an elite group of global green manufacturers, underscoring its long-term commitment to sustainability, ethical practices, and corporate responsibility.

Located in Narsingdi, Pakiza Knit Composite operates as part of the Pakiza Group, a diversified textile conglomerate founded in 1982. Over four decades, the group has expanded from a small-scale local textile business to one of Bangladesh’s largest producers of sarees, printed textiles, lungis, bed linens, shirts, and suits, and has earned a reputation for adopting innovative and sustainable production practices.

Green transformation and sustainable practices
The Platinum recognition was granted following a detailed USGBC assessment of the factory’s infrastructure and operations, evaluating parameters such as energy efficiency, water reuse, renewable energy utilization, waste management, indoor environmental quality, and worker well-being.

Key highlights of Pakiza Knit Composite’s sustainability initiatives include:

  1. Installation of rooftop solar panels to partially power operations with clean energy.
  2. Advanced Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems ensuring responsible wastewater management.
  3. Rainwater harvesting and reuse systems designed to reduce freshwater dependency.
  4. Integration of energy-efficient HVAC systems, natural lighting, and optimized airflow to lower carbon emissions.
  5. Eco-friendly construction materials and landscaping that enhance biodiversity around the facility.

Recognition of team effort
The management of Pakiza Knit Composite extended heartfelt appreciation to its employees and departments—Administration, Compliance, Maintenance, and Civil—whose teamwork and dedication made the certification possible.

“Our LEED Platinum certification is not just a recognition of sustainable infrastructure but also of our corporate vision,” said a senior company representative. “We aim to lead Bangladesh’s transformation toward greener manufacturing and contribute to a global low-carbon future.”

Strengthening Bangladesh’s green leadership
Bangladesh is now home to more than 250 LEED-certified garment and textile factories, the highest in the world, setting new global standards for sustainability in apparel production. With Pakiza Knit Composite joining this distinguished list, the country’s image as a responsible sourcing destination continues to strengthen.

Industry experts believe that such achievements not only enhance brand reputation and buyer confidence but also help attract higher-value orders from sustainability-focused global fashion brands.

As Pakiza Knit Composite moves forward, the company pledges to further innovate in sustainable textile manufacturing—continuing its legacy of quality, responsibility, and environmental stewardship that began over four decades ago.
