Brent T. Christensen met leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at the BGMEA complex in Uttara to discuss bilateral trade, investment and labor issues.
During the meeting with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and board members, both sides discussed strengthening Bangladesh–US trade relations and exploring potential US investment in Bangladesh’s energy sector.
BGMEA also sought clarification on a proposed mechanism for duty benefits on garments made with US cotton, which the ambassador said is under review by the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
The discussions also covered labor law reforms and Bangladesh’s progress in green garment manufacturing, with both sides expressing optimism about expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
