Bangladesh government to close 3 border land ports, suspend another

Bangladesh will shut three unprofitable land ports with India — Chilahati (Nilphamari), Doulatganj (Chuadanga), and Tegamukh (Rangamati) — and also suspends operations at Balla (Habiganj) due to the absence of trade, immigration activities, and infrastructure.
The decision, taken at a 28th July inter-ministerial meeting, aims to avoid wasteful investments. Balla will remain closed until facilities on India’s side are completed. These ports are among eight inactive sites, which also include Nakugaon, Gobrakura-Koroitoli, Dhanua Kamalpur, and Birol.
Bangladesh currently operates 24 government-run land ports, but officials say several have no commercial potential and recommend halting unnecessary infrastructure construction at such sites.
