Shifting to renewable energy is a must: BIDA

Bangladesh is at a pivotal point in its energy transition, with a growing focus on renewable energy to bolster energy security, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability. This shift will take center stage at the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, which begins on April 7, with a dedicated session on renewable energy scheduled for April 9.

The session, titled “Renewable Energy: Unlocking Bangladesh’s Potential for a Green Energy Transition,” is co-organized by BIDA, the European Union, and the UNDP. It aims to explore green investment opportunities, policy reforms, and financing mechanisms essential for scaling up solar, wind, hydropower, and waste-to-energy solutions.

The program will feature high-level panel discussions, B2B matchmaking, and speed networking events designed to connect global investors with local stakeholders, including regulators, financial institutions, and private sector leaders. Key topics include land access, climate resilience, infrastructure gaps, and creating an enabling business environment for renewable energy.

Notable speakers include government officials and international business leaders such as Power Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, EU Ambassador Michael Miller, and executives from Grameen phone, H&M Group, PRAN-RFL, and Solar Power Europe.

With electricity demand rising, Bangladesh sees clean energy not just as a necessity but as a strategic investment. BIDA highlighted the strong momentum in the sector driven by supportive policies and rising interest from global investors. The summit, focusing on high-growth sectors like renewables and the digital economy, aims to usher in a new chapter for Bangladesh’s development and global engagement.
