Starlink got approval to be launched in Bangladesh

Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has received official approval from the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) to begin operations in Bangladesh. The decision, granted on March 29, is seen as a major step toward improving internet access in remote and underserved regions of the country.
Announced by BIDA and BEZA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury at a press conference in Dhaka, the move is expected to significantly enhance connectivity in areas like the Chattogram Hill Tracts, border regions, and char lands—where traditional internet infrastructure is difficult to establish. Starlink will showcase its service during the four-day Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, starting today, allowing attendees to experience satellite-powered internet firsthand.
Starlink’s presence is anticipated to support digital inclusion, boost rural entrepreneurship, and attract further investment in smart infrastructure and ICT. While Bangladesh has made strides in digital adoption, about 50 million people still lack reliable internet access. Experts see Starlink as a game-changer for bridging this “last-mile” gap.
Bangladesh Investment Summit will host over 700 delegates from 40+ countries, including global investors, venture capitalists, and non-resident Bangladeshis. It aims to position Bangladesh as a forward-looking investment destination, highlighting sectors such as pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, agro-processing, and ICT. Details about Starlink’s commercial rollout and pricing are expected during the summit. Chowdhury emphasized that Starlink’s entry symbolizes a modern, connected Bangladesh ready for global business.
