Foreign trainers may take the role to minimize the skill gap
For years, the focus has been on bridging the skills gap. Despite the establishment of the National Skills Development Authority, industries still lack skilled manpower. A solution involves universities collaborating with business leaders to tailor curricula to sector-specific needs. There’s also a significant shortage of competent trainers, which could be addressed by organizing high-quality training programs abroad or bringing in skilled trainers from overseas to develop local talent.
Government aims for Bangladesh to reach middle-income status by 2031 and high-income status by 2041, with the 9th Five-Year Plan in progress. Enhancing industry value-added capacity and production is crucial for increasing wages. Practical actions, beyond planning, are needed from all relevant authorities to address the skills gap.
With the onset of the fourth industrial revolution, Bangladesh’s industries must maintain international competitiveness. Therefore, collaboration among universities, the government, and the private sector is essential to address the skills gap effectively.
