Denim production needs to be doubled by 2030 to reach $ 100 billion export target

Apparel manufacturers emphasized the need for Bangladesh to double its denim exports to global destinations in order to achieve the target of $100 billion in readymade garment (RMG) exports by 2030. Speaking at the inauguration of the 15th edition of the Bangladesh Denim Expo 2023, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi highlighted that Bangladesh is the largest exporter of denim to the EU and the USA.

He mentioned that the government has adjusted the minimum wages of garment workers in consideration of current inflation and emphasized the priority given to workers’ welfare.

Former BGMEA president Md Siddiqur Rahman noted that doubling denim exports is crucial to reaching the $100 billion apparel export target by 2030. He also addressed ongoing workers’ unrest, urging workers to return to work, protect their factories, and avoid falling into the trap of provocation.
