Eyes expansion in South Asian market

In the bustling halls of the Intex Textile Sourcing Fair held at ICCB, Dhaka, from June 25-27, 2025, global textile players converged to showcase innovation, forge partnerships, and explore new frontiers. Among the international exhibitors, one newcomer stood out—not just for their elegant display of woven fabrics but for their genuine warmth and passion for quality. Making their debut in Bangladesh, Chinese textile manufacturer HZK TEX, led by owner Mr. Liang and his team, impressed many with their unique approach to fabric innovation and service.

HZK TEX, based in the Nanma Economic Development Zone in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province—just outside Shanghai—has long been a player in China’s sophisticated textile industry. Mr. Liang, a soft-spoken veteran of the trade with 25 years of experience, established HZK TEX in 2013, guided by a simple but powerful philosophy: “Quality and service are everything.”

I had the pleasure of visiting their stall and engaging in an insightful conversation with Mr. Liang, with translation assistance from his colleague, the affable Ms. Judy. As we talked, Mr. Liang, dressed modestly and exuding quiet confidence, served Chinese tea with ceremonial grace. It was a moment of cultural sharing that left a lasting impression—underscoring the sincerity with which HZK TEX conducts its business.

“This is our first time at Intex Dhaka,” Mr. Liang shared. “We came to understand the Bangladeshi market better and meet potential buyers. We believe Bangladesh has huge potential for long-term business, particularly because of its strong garments industry and cost-effective production ecosystem.”

Their booth showcased a range of woven fabrics specifically developed for the South Asian market. One of the highlights was a soft, drapey material ideal for sarees—designed keeping in mind the comfort and aesthetic preferences of consumers in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. But what really stole the show was a new innovation: fragrance-infused fabric.

“Rub it,” Ms. Judy encouraged as she handed over a fabric swatch. A subtle yet pleasing scent was released—delicate, fresh, and long-lasting. “The fragrance is micro-encapsulated,” she explained. “It stays with the fabric and gets released slowly with friction. It’s perfect for ethnic wear, scarves, even intimate apparel.”

While HZK TEX does produce some knit fabrics, Mr. Liang made it clear that woven fabrics are their strength. Their textile offerings cater primarily to the Japanese domestic market—a region known for its exacting quality standards—but they have recently expanded to serve select European clients. This visit to Bangladesh signals a strategic move to further tap into South Asia’s vast garments export network and grow their footprint in one of the world’s busiest textile hubs.

To support this expansion, HZK TEX had already taken a major step: opening a local office in Bangladesh last year. Led by Mr. Rakibul Islam, their marketing manager for Bangladesh, the team has been steadily building relationships with manufacturers and sourcing agents. “Mr. Rakibul is our bridge,” said Ms. Judy. “He understands the needs of local clients and ensures our services are aligned with market expectations.”

Mr. Liang believes that success in international trade hinges on customer-centric service. “Any problem faced by our clients—small or big—we address it immediately,” he emphasized. “This is how we build trust and long-term relationships. Price and product matter, but service is what makes clients stay.”

The Intex fair itself provided a strong launch-pad. When asked about the response, both Mr. Liang and Ms. Judy smiled. “We are very satisfied,” Mr. Liang said. “We met many sourcing managers, factory owners, and designers. Some were surprised to see our saree fabrics and fragrance textiles—they hadn’t seen anything quite like it before. That’s a good sign.”

Outside the fairgrounds, the HZK TEX team plans to hold several business meetings in the coming days with key stakeholders in Dhaka’s garment sector. They are particularly keen on working with local manufacturers who specialize in ethnic wear, casual fashion, and export apparel. “Our fabrics can add value to Bangladeshi exports,” Mr. Liang noted. “And with our local office, we can ensure fast communication and reliable after-sales support.”

As we wrapped up our conversation, Mr. Liang shared a few personal reflections. “I’ve visited many countries, but I find something very special about Bangladesh. The people are kind, the culture is rich, and the business environment is evolving fast. I see great potential here.”

Indeed, his first trip to Dhaka may just mark the beginning of a promising partnership between HZK TEX and Bangladesh’s ever-expanding textile industry.

As we parted ways with warm smiles and an exchange of business cards, Mr. Liang promised to return next year for Intex 2026. “This is just the start,” he said, offering one final cup of tea. “Next year, we will bring more fabrics, more ideas, and hopefully, more clients.”

With that, another meaningful global connection was forged at Intex Dhaka—one fabric thread at a time.
