State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian urged the RMG factory owners to clear workers’ wages for March and festival bonuses before the beginning of the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
In a statement, the ministry also said that the factory owners will also have to pay wages for seven workdays in April before the Eid holidays as per the rules.
The state minister made the call at the 14th meeting of the tripartite consultative committee (TCC) of the readymade garment sector, at Shromo Bhavan in Dhaka.
The TCC is a body consisting of government representatives, factory owners, and worker leaders formed for the sake of the garment sector.
The statement also said that the TCC did not take any decision on the payment of wages for 10 to 20 days of April before the Eid holiday.
However, if any owner wants to clear wages 10-20 days of April beforehand, they can do it, it added.
The state minister also instructed the factory owners to follow the government rules in case of allowing workers to enjoy holidays.
