Two more garment manufacturers got LEED certified
Two more garment factories in Bangladesh have earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), bringing the country’s total to 226 green factories. The newly certified factories are Saadatia Sweaters Ltd in Ashulia, Dhaka, which received Platinum certification with a score of 91, and Executive Greentex Ltd in Sreepur, Gazipur, which earned Gold certification with a score of 69.
Bangladesh now has 89 Platinum and 123 Gold-certified factories, with 60 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories located in the country. This achievement highlights Bangladesh’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible manufacturing, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
Since 2001, Bangladesh has been receiving LEED certifications, which are awarded based on criteria such as energy efficiency, water and waste management, and overall environmental performance. Mohiuddin Rubel, a BGMEA director, emphasized that sustainability has been a key priority for the industry, aligning growth with global best practices.
He credited the success in green manufacturing to the collaboration between industry efforts, government support, and partnerships with buyers and development organizations. Rubel expressed confidence that the Bangladesh RMG industry will continue to set new benchmarks in sustainability, further establishing itself as a global leader in ethical manufacturing.
