Bangladesh has further solidified its global leadership in environmentally friendly apparel factories, as 204 factories in the sector have now secured LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). In December, “Integra Dresses Limited” in Gazipur became the latest Bangladeshi garment factory to achieve green building certification in the gold category, scoring 99 out of 110 points.
Bangladesh earned 27 green building certifications in 2022, including 13 in the platinum category, the highest level. Among the 204 certified factories, 74 hold platinum ratings, 116 have gold ratings, and the rest fall into other categories.
An additional 500 factories are in the process of obtaining LEED certification from the USGBC. Bangladesh boasts 54 of the top 100 highest-rated LEED green factories globally, with 9 out of the top 10 and 18 out of the top 20 also located in the country. Notably, the highest-scoring factory in the world, with a score of 104, is in Bangladesh.
