Mahmud Hasan Khan has been elected the new President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for the 2025–27 term. He was elected unopposed, as no other candidates contested the position, the BGMEA election board announced.

Alongside Mahmud, the board also declared the names of seven vice-presidents for the new term:

Salim Rahman – First Vice-President

Inamul Haq Khan – Senior Vice-President
Mijanur Rahman – Vice-President (Finance)
Md Rezwan Selim
Vidiya Amrit Khan
Md Sehab Udduza Chowdhury
Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury

The newly elected office bearers will formally assume responsibility on June 16, according to Mahmud Hasan Khan.

The BGMEA’s biennial election was held on May 31, with voting conducted in both Dhaka and Chattogram. Mahmud led the Forum panel, which secured a decisive victory, winning 31 out of 35 director posts. The rival Sammilito Parishad panel won one post in Dhaka and three in Chattogram.

The previous BGMEA election took place in March 2024, but the then-president, SM Mannan Kochi, stepped down in October 2024 following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government. Subsequently, the government appointed Md Anwar Hossain as the BGMEA administrator to oversee the election process.

The latest leadership transition marks a new chapter for the country’s largest export industry association amid growing global challenges and opportunities.
