Chinese firm invests $100 million in Bangladesh for beverage can plant

Chinese company Alu Hi-Tech Industries Ltd is investing $100 million to establish a beverage can manufacturing plant at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur, aiming to produce 1 billion cans annually.

According to Managing Director Yuan Dingyan, around 90% of the output will be exported, while the remainder will serve Bangladesh’s domestic market. The project could reduce reliance on imported beverage cans and help save foreign currency.

The company began work on the project in 2024 and has acquired around 13 acres of land. Basement construction has been completed, with production targeted to begin within eight months. Machinery and raw materials will be imported from China.

However, securing a gas connection remains a key challenge. The Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority says it is working with the relevant authorities to address the company’s gas supply requirements.

The investment comes amid growing demand for aluminium cans used in soft drinks, energy drinks and juices. The factory could strengthen Bangladesh’s manufacturing capacity while creating an export-oriented production base in the country.
