Bangladesh up by 12 notches in World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index 2023

Bangladesh has managed to move 12 positions up at World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index 2023 riding on timely shipments, competent and high-quality logistics services, and effective customs and border management.

According to media reports, Bangladesh came in third among the five South Asian economies assessed in the 2023 index with a score of 2.6 on a 5-point scale, behind India (38th) and Sri Lanka (73rd) even as according to the seventh edition of the ‘Connecting to Compete’ report released on 21st April, Bangladesh’s overall rank has improved to 88th out of 139 countries, from what was 100th in 2018.

Bangladesh was in 108th position among 160 economies in 2014 and 87th in 2016.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, Syed Ershad Ahmed, reportedly maintained it was a positive sign for Bangladesh and that both Chittagong and Mongla ports have shown improvement in operations even though the customs clearance performance was not yet satisfactory.
