China invests in solar panel manufacturing in Bangladesh

Chinese solar giant Longi has decided to set up an office and invest in solar panel manufacturing in Bangladesh, according to Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen.
The decision follows a visit by Chinese solar manufacturers in December, invited by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to relocate factories as part of Bangladesh’s economic expansion strategy.
At least two Chinese firms, including Longi, will invest soon in Bangladesh. Chinese investment in Bangladesh has surged since August 5, following the change in government, with dozens of Chinese companies preparing to invest as a dedicated Chinese export processing zone nears completion.
Professor Yunus welcomed Chinese investments, stating that Bangladesh has the potential to be a key manufacturing hub for Western markets. He also encouraged Chinese healthcare investment in the country. China has allocated four hospitals in Kunming for Bangladeshi patients, with a group already visiting for treatment. The upcoming visit of the Chief Adviser to China is expected to be a landmark moment in the 50-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
