Severe gas supply crisis

A severe gas supply crisis, triggered by Cyclone Remal on May 27, has disrupted homes, industries, and CNG stations across Bangladesh, affecting the national power grid. Homes receive only a few hours of gas daily, and CNG stations face long queues. Industries are particularly hard-hit, with some operating at just 40-50% capacity due to near-zero gas pressure.

Bangladesh Textile Mills Association reported severe production impacts, damaging machinery and halting operations. Factories like Modhumoti Tiles Limited had to shut down, leading to significant financial losses. Residents struggle with cooking, resorting to costly LPG cylinders, while CNG drivers face hours-long waits for refueling.
