Patuakhali to have the next EPZ

413 acres land is for acquisition

Deputy Commissioner’s office in patuakhali had received an administrative approval from prime minister’s office on August 8th 2021 to acquire the needed land in favor or Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) in order to set up ‘Patuakhali EPZ’. Patuakhali district administration had already initiated the process to acquire 413.03 acres of land in Pachakoralia mouza or Alipur union under sadar Upazila. An Investors club is also being set up on 2.25 acres of land in Kuakata for having new investors.

Director of the prime minister’s office, M. Abdullah al mamun said that land acquisition of 410.78 acres in pachakoralia of sadar upazila for EPZ and 2.25 acres in kuakata for the investors club has already begun. If the land acquisition is completed by June this year, from July, we would be able to start the infrastructural activities where one lakh new employment will be created and the project may be completed by 2025’’ said Md. Ashraful Kabir, project director of Patuakhali EPZ. When asked about project cost, he said it is difficult to say right at this moment to tell the total project cost but he added that for surely it would create a positive momentum for the people of this region.
Other than Patuakhali EPZ, there will two more EPZ to be set up, one is Rangpur and the other one will be in Jessor, a BEPZA official said.

There are eight EPZ in Bangladesh now, they are: Chittogong EPZ, Dhaka EPZ, Mongla EPZ, Ishwardi EPZ, Comilla EPZ, Uttara EPZ, Adamjee EPZ, Karnaphuli EPZ
Patuakhali EPZ will be set up on th highway of Patuakhali-Kuakata, 10 km south of Patuakhali town, 40 km away from Payra sea port an 62 km away from Kuakata beach.
Local people are happy to have an EPZ in their region as they foresee a rapid economic development will take place in Patuakhali and nearby places.
