BTMA Holds Constructive Meeting with Bangladesh Bank Governor on Key Issues Facing the Textile Sector

A high-level delegation of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), led by its President, Mr. Showkat Aziz Russell, today held a constructive meeting with the Hon’ble Governor of Bangladesh Bank to discuss a number of critical issues affecting Bangladesh’s textile industry.

The BTMA delegation comprised Mr. A Matin Chowdhury, Former President of BTMA, Mr. Shafiqul Islam Sarkar, Vice President, Mr. Saleudh Zaman Khan, Former Vice President, Mr. Chowdhury Mohammad Hanif Shoeb, Director, Mr. Mosharaf Hossain, Former Director and Engr. Razeeb Haider, Former Director of BTMA.

During the meeting, BTMA submitted a formal letter to the Hon’ble Governor highlighting several priority issues requiring Bangladesh Bank’s policy support. These included:
– Access to the Bangladesh Bank stimulus scheme for fully and partially closed industrial units;
– Settlement of outstanding payments against Back-to-Back Letters of Credit;
– Green Transformation Fund (GTF) facilities;
– Rationalization of interest rates for the textile sector;
– Incentive support for industries located in Special Economic Zones and
– Implementation of an effective Exit Policy for distressed industrial enterprises.

The discussions were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. The Hon’ble Governor and senior officials of Bangladesh Bank gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised by BTMA and assured the delegation that the issues and recommendations submitted by the Association would be examined with due importance.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Sarwar Hossain, Deputy Governor, Mr. Harun Ar Rashid, Director, and Mr. Liakat Ali from Bangladesh Bank.

BTMA expressed its sincere appreciation to the Hon’ble Governor and the Bangladesh Bank team for their valuable time, positive engagement and commitment to supporting the sustainable growth and competitiveness of Bangladesh’s textile industry.
