A Slight of cut in fuel price in Bangladesh

Effective from September 1st, Bangladeshi government has slightly reduced the retail prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol, and octane, marking the interim government’s first adjustment to energy pricing.

Diesel and kerosene prices were lowered by Tk 1.25 per liter, while petrol and octane saw reductions of Tk 6.0 per liter. This adjustment follows the introduction of an automatic fuel-pricing formula, designed to ensure the state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) operates on a “no loss, no profit” basis. The formula, guided by international market benchmarks, is part of the government’s efforts to align with IMF recommendations, which are conditions for a $4.7 billion loan package.
