BGMEA members demand dissolution of its current board
Several members of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have demanded the dissolution of the current board and the establishment of an interim committee to oversee a free, fair, and credible election. This demand was made during a press conference held at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon under the banner of BGMEA general members. Mozammel Haque Bhuiyan, Managing Director of Maisha Fashion, presented a seven-point demand, including the creation of a transparent voter list and the formation of an interim board to supervise the upcoming election.
Mozammel alleged that the BGMEA election held in February was plagued by irregularities and undue influence from the Sheikh Hasina-led government. He also claimed that many ineligible factories, without proper trade licenses or tax returns, were allowed to vote. In response to these concerns, he urged the commerce adviser of the interim government to intervene to ensure the integrity of the garment sector.
