With validity period of 7, 15 or 30 days, now tourists from foreign land can have ‘tourist SIM’ while they are in Bangladesh for travel. BTRC, the regulatory authority for telecom had announced that they are going to introduce this tourist SIM for travels who comes to visit Bangladesh.
Tourists will be allowed to pick their e-SIM on demand at the time of their entry through any ports. If any travel need a long term SIM, they will be able to exchange it for regular SIM by showing their work permit.
This tourist SIM will be identified by central biometric verification monitoring platform and all mobile operators will be asked to have a prior approval from BTRC. As per the rules, an unused SIM which was registered before cannot be re-registered to someone else’s name before 540 days, as the huge number of tourist SIM could be in use and then left unused as the travelers gone.
Vice chairmen of BTRC, Md. Mohiduddin Ahmed said that they are working on this to benefit travelers and more detail will be shared soon.
