Zambia opens consulate in Dhaka to strengthen trade

Zambia officially opened its consulate in Dhaka on 14th May, Wednesday, marking a key step in enhancing economic and investment ties with Bangladesh. The move aims to unlock trade opportunities, especially in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector, by tapping into Zambia’s strategic position as a gateway to Southern and Central African markets.

The inauguration, held by the Zambia-Bangladesh Business Forum-Dhaka, brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries. Organized in collaboration with Zambia’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry and the Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh, the event underscored shared goals in boosting bilateral trade.

Zambian officials highlighted Bangladesh’s strengths in apparel, leather, pharmaceuticals, and textiles as key to supporting Zambia’s industrial development. They also emphasized Zambia’s trade corridor potential and access to markets like Congo, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.

Speakers called for expanded collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, ICT, and renewable energy, while also promoting SME and women-led business engagement. The new consulate is expected to streamline business partnerships and facilitate Bangladeshi RMG exports into Africa, advancing regional integration and mutual growth.
