RMG orders declined for Bangladesh, in effect, India sees decline in cotton supply

As garment production in Bangladesh resumes, Western apparel and footwear companies have temporarily paused new orders, impacting both Bangladesh and the Indian textile industry, which supplies raw materials to Bangladesh. While India is receiving fresh garment inquiries, its cotton exports to Bangladesh are declining.

Industry leaders note that production in Bangladesh continues, particularly in Dhaka and Chittagong, despite earlier disruptions. Western companies are considering India as an alternative sourcing destination, but challenges remain due to differences in product offerings between India and Bangladesh. The ongoing situation has also heightened European concerns about human rights in Bangladesh, driving interest in other Asian markets like Cambodia and Vietnam.
