Four more RMG factories earn LEED certification

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has honored HAMS Garments Limited for achieving the highest score ever recorded in global green factory ratings, reinforcing Bangladesh’s growing leadership in sustainable apparel manufacturing.

At a ceremony held at the Nurul Quader Auditorium of the BGMEA Complex in North Dhaka on Saturday, BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haque Khan presented the award to Shafiqul Rahman, Managing Director of HAMS Garments. He announced that the factory secured an exceptional 108 out of 110 points under the USGBC LEED Platinum certification, setting a new world record.

BGMEA leaders said the milestone has strengthened the global image of the “Made in Bangladesh” brand and created a new benchmark for environmental excellence in the apparel sector. Bangladesh currently hosts 273 LEED-certified green factories, including 115 Platinum and 139 Gold, the highest concentration of green garment units worldwide.

During the event, BGMEA Director Faisal Samad called for easier access to the Green Technology Fund to support wider adoption of sustainable manufacturing practices. Director Faruk Hasan noted that while Bangladesh’s LEED scores have steadily improved over the years, sustainability achievements are yet to be fully reflected in international pricing.

USGBC consultant Ananta Ahmed highlighted the technical significance of the achievement, stating that Bangladesh is no longer just advancing in sustainability but is now setting global standards for green industrial development.
