Four more RMG factories earn LEED certification

Bangladesh’s drive toward sustainable industrialization gained further momentum as four more ready-made garment (RMG) factories secured Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
With the latest additions, the total number of LEED-certified garment factories in the country has reached 284, including 121 Platinum and 144 Gold-rated units—reinforcing Bangladesh’s position as a global hub for green manufacturing.
Of the newly certified factories, three achieved Platinum ratings while one received Gold. The recognized units are Pahartali Textiles Limited (Unit-02) in Chattogram, Welldone Apparel Limited in Gazipur, Everbright Sweater Limited in Ashulia, and Siam Computerized Elastic Industries Limited (Mamtex) in Gazipur.
Industry insiders said Bangladesh now hosts 52 of the world’s top 100 LEED-rated factories, reflecting significant investments in energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and environmentally responsible production systems.
The RMG sector continues to lead the country’s green transition, driven by growing demand from international buyers for compliance and sustainability. Analysts note that LEED-certified factories benefit from lower energy and water consumption, reduced carbon emissions, and improved workplace conditions.
However, experts stress the need for continued policy support, access to low-cost financing, and technological upgrades to sustain the momentum—particularly to bring small and medium-sized factories into the green transformation process.
