International food grain supply may see a crisis and price would go rocket high as Russia stepped back from the agreement

33 million tons of grains and other foods had been exported from Ukraine since last July despite a brutal and massive war with Russia which impacted harder on agricultural farming. But whenever the gain deal needs to be renewed, Russia pull out from the deal left a heavy threat of price hike and indeed it will have a profound impact on global food crisis.

Caitlin Welsh from Center for strategic and international studies said to German media DW, “If the deal is not renewed, we would see significant impact on global food prices and on global food security for the millions of people around the World”.

Moscow had repeatedly threatened to leave the deal but last agreed to a two-month extension in May, which ran to Monday last. The corridor’s shutdown will hit key buyers like China, Spain and Egypt.

The “arrangements have ceased to be in force today,” a Kremlin spokesman said, according to Russian news agency Tass. “Unfortunately, the part concerning Russia in this Black Sea agreement has not been fulfilled so far. Therefore, it is terminated.” Russia has notified Turkey and the United Nations — which had brokered the pact — that it won’t extend the deal. Moscow has said it will return to the agreement once its conditions are met.
