The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has called for stronger business-to-business engagement and joint investment between Bangladesh and China to help reduce the countries’ widening trade imbalance.

FBCCI Administrator Md Fazlul Hoque made the call during a meeting with a Chinese business delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) at the FBCCI office in Motijheel.

He said bilateral trade is currently close to $20 billion, while Bangladesh’s exports to China remain below $1 billion annually. He urged businesses from both countries to identify sectors with strong potential for trade and investment.

Bangladeshi business leaders invited Chinese investors to explore joint ventures in food processing, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and APIs, renewable energy, and jute and jute products.

He Tao, Director of the Bureau of Commerce of China’s Honghe region, expressed interest in expanding bilateral trade and investment, particularly by simplifying import-export procedures and exploring new business opportunities.

The FBCCI assured the delegation of its continued support for Chinese businesses seeking to invest and operate in Bangladesh.
