Bangladesh, Netherlands deepen cooperation on circular textile economy

Bangladesh and the Netherlands have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on the circular economy, with a particular focus on making Bangladesh’s textile and ready-made garment (RMG) sectors more sustainable and competitive.
Bangladesh Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir and Dutch Minister for Climate and Green Growth Stientje van Veldhoven signed the agreement virtually on behalf of their respective governments.
The MoU will promote cooperation across the textile value chain, including efficient resource use, waste reduction, recyclable production systems, green technologies and sustainable industrialisation.
Muktadir said circular production could help Bangladesh improve resource efficiency, attract sustainable investment, create green jobs and maintain export competitiveness, particularly as the country prepares for LDC graduation.
Van Veldhoven stressed that the transition to a circular economy requires international cooperation, commercial partnerships and coordinated action across global supply chains. She called for the agreed priorities to be translated into concrete measures.
The partnership is expected to create opportunities for innovation, green technologies and more sustainable production systems in Bangladesh’s textile and RMG industries.
