Saudi firms eye $1 billion investment in Bangladesh’s ports and transport infrastructure

Saudi Arabia has expressed strong interest in investing up to $1 billion in Bangladesh’s ports, railways and other strategic infrastructure projects, signalling a new phase of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The commitment came during a meeting on Wednesday between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and a high-level Saudi delegation led by Rumaih Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister for Transport and Logistic Services, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The delegation said Red Sea Gateway Terminal International plans to invest $180 million in developing a Bay Terminal in Bangladesh and aims to expand its total investment in the country’s port sector to $1 billion. Several other Saudi companies are also exploring investment opportunities across key sectors.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted Bangladesh’s investor-friendly policies and welcomed greater Saudi participation in the country’s infrastructure development. Both sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and agreed that detailed talks on prospective projects would continue through future joint meetings.
The Saudi delegation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh and invited the prime minister to visit Saudi Arabia.
