Chief adviser professor Muhammad Yunus optimistic about resolving US tariff issue

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed optimism about positive progress in negotiations with the US government regarding the newly imposed tariffs.
“We are studying the matter. Since it is negotiable, we will engage in discussions and aim for the best possible deal,” said the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, quoting Prof. Yunus.
Speaking to BSS in Bangkok about the US’s 37% tariff on Bangladeshi products, Alam stated, “The issue is still in its early stages. We are reviewing it carefully and believe our approach will strengthen US-Bangladesh relations.”
The interim government is committed to finding a mutually beneficial solution. “We will take measures to protect the interests of both Bangladesh and the US,” Alam added, emphasizing ongoing communication with US officials.
In the morning, Alam noted that Bangladesh is reassessing its tariffs on US imports. “The National Board of Revenue is working to rationalize tariffs efficiently,” he shared in a Facebook post.
He highlighted the US as Bangladesh’s largest export destination and a key ally. “Since the Trump administration took office, we have been working to enhance trade and investment cooperation,” he said. “Our ongoing discussions with the US government are expected to help address this tariff issue.”
The US recently announced a 37% tariff on Bangladeshi imports as part of President Donald Trump’s new “reciprocal tariff” policy.
