Indonesia exports $1.6 billion in apparel to US, retains 5th spot

Indonesia exported $1.6 billion worth of apparel to the United States during January–April 2025, maintaining its position as the fifth-largest apparel supplier to the American market, according to newly released trade data.

Despite a modest year-on-year increase in export value, Indonesia remains behind India in the supplier rankings. Its market share in the U.S. apparel import market during the period but has not yet reclaimed the fourth position it held in previous years.

The announcement follows the news of a preliminary trade deal between Indonesia and the U.S., as confirmed by President Donald Trump earlier this month. As part of the agreement, the U.S. import duty on Indonesian apparel is being reduced, a move expected to enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in the American market.

The revised tariff structure is anticipated to benefit Indonesian exporters significantly in the coming months, potentially increasing order volumes and strengthening Indonesia’s position among top apparel sourcing destinations.

The deal comes amid a broader reshuffling of global sourcing strategies, as U.S. brands and retailers diversify their supply chains across Asia. With its growing apparel manufacturing capacity, favorable labor costs, and improved trade terms, Indonesia is well-positioned to capture a larger share of future U.S. apparel imports.
