BGMEA urges garment factories to close on August 5 in tribute to July mass uprising day

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called on all member garment factories nationwide to remain closed on August 5, in solidarity with the government’s observance of “July Mass Uprising Day.”
In an official statement, BGMEA emphasized that the closure is a gesture of respect for the martyrs and aligns with the government-declared public holiday to commemorate the historic movement.
“As a mark of respect to the martyrs and to support the government’s decision, we urge all member factories to voluntarily observe August 5 as a general holiday,” the BGMEA stated.
Although the day is not a mandatory closure under labour law, the association highlighted its symbolic and historical importance, encouraging all members to participate in the observance as a show of national unity. BGMEA’s appeal underscores its intent to foster a spirit of collective remembrance and national solidarity within the apparel industry.
