Government of Bangladesh working to expand global market access for jute products

Textiles and Jute Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin has stressed the importance of developing jute products that combine aesthetics with practical utility to capture both domestic and international markets.
Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day boot camp on “Sustainable market entry for jute-based SMEs” at the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre in Dhaka on Tuesday, he noted that decorative items alone are not enough, as buyers demand functional products. Highlighting government initiatives, the adviser said steps are underway to expand global market access, including a plan to market 10 million jute bags with a 30–40% subsidy. However, he expressed frustration that entrepreneurs have been slow in responding, citing lengthy tender processes.
The event, joined by DG of JDPC Md. Jahid Hossain and Commerce Ministry Joint Secretary Shaila Yasmin, brought together 105 SME entrepreneurs for training on sustainable market strategies.
