Barmag commissions World’s first PA66 spinning plant with EvoQuench technology in China

Barmag, a subsidiary of the Oerlikon Group, has successfully commissioned the world’s first polyamide 66 (PA66) spinning plant equipped with EvoQuench radial quenching technology, marking a major milestone in advanced synthetic yarn production. The state-of-the-art facility has been installed at Shandong Nanshan Fashion Technology Co., Ltd. in Longkou, Shandong Province, China.

The newly commissioned multi-position PA66 spinning line is designed for the efficient production of high-quality microfiber yarns, enabling Nanshan Fashion to vertically integrate yarn manufacturing into its existing textile and apparel value chain. The plant primarily supplies yarn for the company’s downstream processing and garment production, strengthening supply security and cost control.

According to Barmag, the EvoQuench radial quenching system delivered excellent yarn quality and high operational efficiency from the initial start-up phase. Within its first year of operation, the PA66 yarn produced at the facility has already gained strong market acceptance, positioning itself as a premium product in terms of both quality and price. This performance supports Nanshan Fashion’s ambitions to expand the international reach of its fashion brands.

The EvoQuench technology allows for highly uniform cooling during filament formation, making it particularly suitable for the production of microfiber yarns in both PA6 and PA66. The system improves process stability, energy efficiency, and product consistency—key requirements for high-end apparel, sportswear, and functional textile applications.

The project reflects growing global demand for polyamide yarns, especially PA66, which is valued for its superior strength, durability, elasticity, and comfort compared to polyester. “We are seeing increasing interest in polyamide yarn systems, with PA66 clearly in focus,” said Jens Schumacher, Sales Director at Barmag. “We have recently signed contracts for two additional PA66 projects in East Asia, underlining this market trend.”

Although PA66 commands a higher yarn price than polyester, Barmag notes that its enhanced performance characteristics and wearer comfort make it commercially attractive for premium textile segments. EvoQuench technology further improves profitability by enabling efficient microfiber production with reduced resource consumption.

The PA66 project builds on a strategic cooperation agreement signed between Barmag and Nanshan Fashion at the end of 2023, covering polyamide POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) and DTY (Draw Textured Yarn) solutions. This partnership laid the foundation for Nanshan Fashion’s entry into chemical fiber production.

Shandong Nanshan Fashion Technology is part of the publicly listed Nanshan Group, one of China’s top 500 enterprises, with diversified operations spanning textiles, apparel, aluminium, real estate, and finance. The successful commissioning of the PA66 spinning plant further strengthens the group’s position in high-value textile manufacturing.
