Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry marks silver jubilee as exports to Malaysia surge fivefold in a decade

Bangladesh’s exports to Malaysia have risen more than fivefold over the past decade, climbing from $56 million to nearly $300 million, underscoring deepening bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

The figures were shared by Mohd Shuhada Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh, during the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) held at the Sheraton Dhaka on 28th Feb, 2026.

Addressing business leaders, policymakers and chamber members, the envoy said the impressive export growth reflects the expanding trade partnership and growing business confidence between Bangladesh and Malaysia. He noted that the next phase of cooperation would focus on high-technology sectors, particularly semiconductor collaboration, digital innovation and advanced manufacturing.

Highlighting Malaysia’s strategic ambitions in the global halal economy, Othman said both countries could strengthen cooperation in halal-certified food production, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and Islamic finance to tap into the rapidly growing global halal market. He also commended BMCCI’s role in facilitating trade and investment and supporting Malaysia’s standing as the ninth-largest foreign investor in Bangladesh.

As chief guest of the event, the High Commissioner formally unveiled the chamber’s new Silver Jubilee logo, symbolizing 25 years of partnership and shared progress.

Speaking at the program, BMCCI President Shabbir A Khan reflected on the chamber’s journey since its establishment in 2001. He described the Silver Jubilee logo as a representation of resilience, trust and future-oriented growth. He paid tribute to the 12 founding members and acknowledged the contributions of former presidents, directors and members who helped shape the organization’s trajectory.

Over the past 25 years, BMCCI has played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral economic ties through investment forums, trade fairs, business delegations, seminars and symposiums. The chamber has also worked to connect entrepreneurs, facilitate joint ventures and promote knowledge exchange between the private sectors of both countries.

Business leaders at the event expressed optimism that stronger engagement in high-tech industries, halal value chains and diversified trade portfolios would further elevate Bangladesh-Malaysia economic cooperation in the coming years.
