Textile minister will address RMG challenges to the cabinet

Jute and Textiles Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak pledged to address the challenges faced by the readymade garment (RMG) exporters regarding complications with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Customs. He assured to raise these issues in the next cabinet meeting and hold discussions with higher government authorities to resolve them.

In a meeting with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) leaders, he emphasized the importance of the RMG sector in social change and acknowledged the need for policy flexibility. BGMEA President SM Mannan (Kochi) highlighted the industry’s challenges, including rising production costs and demanded policy support to ensure sustainability and foster export growth. BGMEA president also stressed the necessity of policy support for attracting increased investment in promising sectors post-LDC graduation. Additionally, he called for maintaining cash support for garment exports till 2026 and reducing the source tax from 1 percent to 50 %. Other BGMEA officials and government representatives were also present at the meeting to discuss these issues.
