Partially broadband internet connections restored

Broadband internet connections were partially restored from last night after a five-day nationwide blackout caused by violence over quota protests. The limited restoration prioritizes banking, commercial, technology, export, outsourcing service providers, and media outlets, according to Zunaid Ahmad Palak, state minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT. Full restoration will follow soon.
Despite government claims of a fire at Mohakhali data centers causing the blackout, investigations revealed no fire damage, suggesting the shutdown was government-ordered. Experts argue that internet service should have continued smoothly due to redundancies and unaffected major service providers.
Mohiuddin Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association, urged government to restore internet access for all citizens, highlighting its status as a basic need. Broadband service providers noted that vandalism during the violence should have only caused localized outages, not a complete blackout.
Just a few minutes back, government’s concerning department said that almost every citizen will get broadband connection by today.
