Scientist-turned-designer creates sustainable clothing line with focus on women’s health
Alexander Perry, a former biochemist, has traded his central London office for a design studio in north London, where he’s pioneering sustainable fashion with a scientific twist. Inspired by his background in biochemistry and biological chemistry, Perry has launched a clothing line made from eco-friendly materials like seaweed and eucalyptus.
The innovative fabrics, known for being rich in vitamins and minerals, are thought to have potential anti-inflammatory properties, although scientific opinion remains divided. Some studies suggest seaweed can reduce inflammation and soothe itchiness, while others call for further research into its medical benefits.
Perry’s venture took a personal turn after his mother battled breast cancer twice. Motivated by her journey and feedback from women dealing with perimenopause, menopause, and shingles, he developed a line of sustainable clothing that prioritizes female health. The collection blends comfort and support traditionally found in underwear, offering relief to those experiencing health challenges.
“The feedback has been incredibly encouraging,” Perry said. “Hearing how my designs positively impact women’s lives has been the most rewarding part of this journey.”
Looking ahead, Perry plans to expand his product range to address the needs of men dealing with medical conditions, further merging science and fashion to promote wellness for all.
