Lower the gas price: BTMA

Textile millers in Bangladesh have urged the interim government to reduce gas prices from Tk 31 to below Tk 20 per unit and to ban yarn imports through land ports to protect the industry. At a press conference organized by the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), millers highlighted challenges such as low gas pressure and competition from cheaper Indian yarn, which benefits from government subsidies.

They warned that without intervention, factories might have to shut down. BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell accused Indian millers of “dumping” yarn in Bangladesh, leading to unsold local stock worth Tk 10,000  crore. Millers also argued that they face discrimination in gas pricing compared to other sectors.
