Cambodia’s export earnings surge as garments, footwear and travel goods hit $12.2 billion in first nine months of 2025

Cambodia’s export performance continued its strong upward trajectory in 2025, with garments, textiles, footwear, and travel goods generating more than $12.2 billion in export earnings between January and September—an increase of 16.7% compared to the same period last year, according to official data published by Khmer Times, a leading national daily.
Garment exports remained the dominant contributor, reaching $8.63 billion, while textile shipments amounted to $505 million. Footwear exports recorded a robust 26.7% jump year-on-year, reflecting expanding orders from the European Union, United States, and regional markets. Exports of travel goods, bags, and related items also grew by 3.2%, demonstrating steady demand despite global supply-chain adjustments.
The garment, textile, footwear, and travel goods sector remains the largest foreign currency earner for Cambodia, encompassing more than 1,500 factories and branches and employing over 900,000 workers, the majority of them women.
Economist and Royal University of Phnom Penh lecturer Thong Mengdavid said the strong export rebound signifies Cambodia’s “solid post-pandemic industrial recovery” and its growing market diversification beyond traditional partners such as the US and EU. But sustaining this momentum, he noted, will require innovation-driven production, deeper digital integration, and upgrades into higher value-added manufacturing.
