Chittogong supply chain got severely disrupted by the flood

The ongoing flood has severely disrupted the Dhaka-Chattogram highway for four days, halting trade between the capital and the port city. The supply chain for essential goods from Chattogram’s Khatunganj market has nearly collapsed, affecting the distribution of staples like rice, onions, and oil.
Chattogram Port, already delayed by political unrest, faces a worsening import-export crisis. Road and rail communication between Chattogram and other parts of the country is completely cut off, stranding over 3,500 vehicles on a 45km stretch of the highway.
Apparel exporters are struggling to meet deadlines and have sought the Bangladesh Army’s help to assess the condition of the Lemua Bridge. The disruption has left thousands of trucks loaded with export goods, imports, and raw materials stuck, raising concerns about missed shipment deadlines and the security of stranded vehicles. The situation has also led to a significant drop in container deliveries from Chattogram Port and a sharp increase in transportation costs.
